2024 at the PBF: A Year in Review

In many ways, 2024 at the Peter Bullough Foundation was our biggest year yet. We welcomed

23 artists-in-residence and with their partnership, we hosted 10 workshops, 5 open studios, 2 lectures, 2 photo booths, and 1 reading. We were thrilled to work with several different organizations in our community for these events, including: AIDS Response Effort Inc, ARE’s LGBTQ+ Center, Evans Home for Children, Laurel Ridge Community College, and Shenandoah University. All of these events were graciously sponsored in part by First Bank and the Marion Park Lewis Foundation for the Arts, who returned as event sponsors for another year! We’re so grateful to have had such wonderful artists that were as excited about sharing their talents with the community as we were.

In addition to the events we shared with our residents, we were proud to host, along with 1455 Literary Arts, a reading and book launch in May for our friend, author and poet Sean Murphy. In July, we hosted our second “Pawcasso” workshop with the Winchester Area SPCA, sponsored by our friends Six Star Events. Six Star Events has catered every summer open studio event - we’re so grateful for their support!

In June, we held our very first in-person board retreat since 2019, with board members traveling from as far as Copenhagen and Long Island, NY to join us! Our board and staff worked hard to refine a strategic plan for the organization for the next few years at the PBF. August saw us hosting our annual open studio for our summer residents, which included some incredible garden installations by our summer residents. In September, we were the nonprofit beneficiary of the Lost Weekend Film Festival at Alamo Drafthouse, hosting a 3-day long silent auction, for which many of our former residents and many of our local businesses donated items. With their generous support and the support of the Alamo Winchester Film Club, we were so fortunate as to raise $13,000! Finally, in December, we were thrilled to be part of Preservation of Historic Winchester’s Holiday House tour, hosting 425+ people at 120 and 122 West Cork and sharing Dr. Bullough’s legacy with them.
